Wet Bottom Shoofly Pie

A traditional favorite here in Pennsylvania. Great for breakfast and/or dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Crumbs:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tblsps melted butter

    Instructions
     

    • Beat egg, & add molasses
    • Dissolve baking soda in hot tap water & add to egg & molasses
    • Mix with hands the crumbs: flour, brown sugar & melted butter
    • Save half cup of crumbs to sprinkle on top of pie
    • Put remaining crumbs mixture into the gooey mixture & beat
    • Place the prepared pie crust in a 9 inch pie pan
    • Fill the pie pan with the gooey molasses batter
    • Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of crumbs
    • Bake in 350 degrees oven for 45 minutes or until done
