
Cake Pie
A great choice if you're not certain if you want a cake or a pie. This recipe is truly a keeper…. delicious!
Ingredients
Sauce:
- 1 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate
- 1/2 cup water
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Cake Batter:
- 1 cup flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts

Instructions
- Sauce: melt 1 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate with 1/2 cup water
- Add 2/3 cup sugar
- Bring to a boil, stirring constantly
- Remove from heat: stir in 1/4 cup butter & 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- Set Aside
- Cake Batter: stir together 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt
- Add 1/4 cup shortening, 1/2 cup milk & 1/2 tsp vanilla
- Beat 2 minutes medium speed on mixer
- Scrape sides & bottom of bowl constantly
- Add 1 egg
- Beat 2 minutes more scrapping bowl
- Pour cake batter into pie shell
- Stir sauce & pour carefully over cake batter
- Sprinkle top with 1/2 finely chopped walnuts
- Bake 55 to 60 minutes or until toothpick stuck in center comes out clean
- Serve warm, if desired
